This award recognizes an individual not involved in school nutrition programs who has made a significant contribution and extraordinary work on behalf of school nutrition programs. This person has impacted child nutrition programs through positive advocacy or political process. This year, we are presenting our first ever Friends of SNA of SC Award to Commissioner Hugh Weathers of the SC Department of Agriculture. Commissioner Weathers through his Advocacy for Child Nutrition Programs has created the Certified SC Cafeteria Program. This Program has provided SC Child Nutrition Programs around SC with $1 Million dollars annually to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables and grains from SC Farmers and SC producers. These funds are recurring and will be in the state budget every year.
